ACP CP App Competition
Information
The Association for Constraint Programming (ACP)
is holding a CP App Competition. The objective is to
produce an app (IOS and/or Android) that uses Constraint
Programming (CP). CP is both one of the most widely used AI
technologies and one of the least well-known. Apps
with “CP AI Inside” could help raise awareness of
CP.
Entrants can be individuals or teams. The
competition could be used to motivate students in
a class, to publicize a research lab or a company,
or to bolster a CV.
The competition was inspired in part by this article
about a Cornell app that has over a million
downloads, and has been written up in the New York
Times, Popular Science, etc.:

Rules
The rules are simple:
The app must be available, for free, in the
Apple App Store and/or the Google Play Store by
July 31, 2022.
The description of the app must state
prominently that the app "employs a form of
Artificial Intelligence called Constraint
Programming”. The Competition Coordinator is

Entrants must email to the Coordinator, with subject line “CP App Entry”, by:
- March 1, 2022: (Non-binding) expression of intent to compete, a one-paragraph description of the planned app, and a preliminary list of the people involved and their affiliations.
- May 1, 2022: One-page progress report.
- July 31, 2022: Final report including a pointer to the app in the Apple App Store and/or the Google Play Store, a one-page description of the app and the role that CP plays in it, and a final list of the people involved and their affiliations.
The winner of the competition will be announced at an award ceremony at CP 2022, The 28th International Conference on Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming, and be given an opportunity to describe briefly the experience of building the app and its use of CP. The winner will receive a cash award from the ACP of 500 euro.
